This book undertakes to analyze the characteristic Johannine images hidden in the text unit depicting the drama of the crucifixion in a way that, starting from the motifs of the cross theology of the gospel, it refers to the conscious image-making processes perceptible in the entire text. The approach to the connections between the theological approach represented by Hans Uhr von Balthasar and the theology of images unfolding in the text of the Gospel of John is the first Hungarian-language attempt in the field of literary theory, narratology and theological examination of the text. The call to recognize the Christ icon hidden in the text of the Gospel of John may, based on the questions raised in this book, contribute to the contemplative reader becoming a witness to the Christology of images.
