Design and evaluation of experiments

Our book with a similar title, published in 2000, was sold out many years ago, despite several reprints, and our interested readers have been searching for it in vain. As time passed, and new methods came into use alongside the survival of classical tools, we ourselves gained further experience, so we considered a more or less unchanged reprint less and less an appropriate solution, and decided in favor of a complete revision. The new parts and new emphases: one-sided tests; equivalence of test and confidence interval, and the critical value taken from the table, calculated p, relationship and use of confidence interval; TOST (two one-sided t-tests); error propagation analysis for measurements (GUM-EURACHEM method); consideration of multiple sources of fluctuation; split-plot, difficult-to-change factors; critical mix, bad point. Our experience is that the real problems that the user faces are complex and cannot be simplified, they require the use of several tools, but learning and teaching can only be done starting from simple tools, spiraling upwards. That is why we include complex examples as new chapters. Part of the book is the printed version, which we wanted to shape into a usable basic textbook. We have referred the theoretically more difficult chapters and subchapters, without which, in our belief, users with less demand for theoretical foundation can still do well, to the digital part. The complex application examples are also found there. The authors are lecturers at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Process Engineering of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
